ANT EXTERMINATION
Ants in the garden, in the garden and at home are often a big problem. Whether they dig up the roots of garden and kitchen garden plants, damage crops, destroy green lawns, settle under paving stones or right next to us – in cracks around drains – or set up a colony behind broken wall or floor tiles, wooden or laminate floors or furniture, if left unchecked they can cause considerable damage.
Many ants use pest honeydew as an additional or even main source of food, which contaminates the leaf surface and serves as a food medium for fungi. To avoid losing their food source, ants protect aphids, leafhoppers and ladybirds, thus contributing to their spread and reproduction. We exterminate ants in Vilnius and Kaunas.

ANT SPECIES
Three species of ants are commonly found in Lithuania: the black (garden) ant, the pharaoh ant and the red fire ant.
Black ants are the most common ants in gardens, disrupting the soil and the terrain, damaging the aesthetic appearance of the landscape, pulling up paving stones, carrying aphids on plants and often biting the inhabitants.
Pharaoh ants are far more dangerous. Pharaoh ants are most commonly found in areas where food is produced or stored. These ants are omnivorous. These ants spread microbes in ingested food that can be dangerous to health.
Red fire ants are rarely found in houses. They are most often complained about by people living near forests or enjoying the outdoors. Fire ants sting animals and people, and their stings are particularly painful. Therefore, ant extermination should be carried out as soon as possible.
HOW TO EXTERMINATE ANTS?
People often choose the wrong measures to control ants: pouring hot water into anthills, spraying the ground with strong, unsuitable chemicals, spreading boric acid, etc. Unfortunately, folk methods are practically ineffective – only a fraction of worker ants are killed by inappropriate means. However, if you have a small number of ants and you want to stop them from breeding, we would like to share with you some natural ways that may help to reduce the ant population:
SWEET BAIT
Add water with a little honey and sugar to a saucepan and sprinkle the edges of the saucepan with this solution. Pretty soon the pot will be full of a black or brown mass.
JAM TRAP
Take a spoonful of jam and mix it with a small piece of yeast. The ants eat this mixture, the yeast in their bodies expands, and eventually the uninvited guests die.
SUNFLOWER OIL
To prevent ants from attacking food, use sunflower oil on the outer edges of containers and bags used to store food. At least these foods will give you peace of mind.
VARIOUS LEAVES
The leaves of wild mint, wormwood and elder trees also repel ants. Try placing tomato stems (not dried tomato stems, but picked tomato flowers, i.e. not fruit) on ant trails. They do not like the smell of tomatoes.
CHALK
Crush a piece of chalk and sprinkle it on the ants’ favourite places. This method must be used in parallel with another ant control method, as chalk does not kill ants, but only drives them away.
Ants do not like the smell of mint, bittersweet, wormwood and aniseed. The green and dried leaves of these plants can be used as repellents by placing them in places where insects congregate.
However, these measures may be effective for the eradication of black ants, while the eradication of pharaoh ants is much more difficult. They settle in hard-to-reach places: around drains, between skirting boards, in walls, between tiles, in kitchen furniture, etc., attracted by food scraps, crumbs, meat, fish, syrups.

ANT EXTERMINATION - PREVENTION
- Regularly clean the surfaces of kitchen furniture, floors and corners to prevent ants from getting food residues;
- Keep food tightly sealed and out of the reach of ants;
- Do not leave food and water residues in pet bowls;
- Seal all cracks in the foundation of the house to prevent ants from setting up a colony there;
- Collect fallen fruit and berries regularly in the garden and pick overripe fruit in time, as this encourages them to climb trees;
- To discourage garden ants, throw pruned tomato shoots or developing elder tree shoots and leaves on paths, at the entrance to greenhouses or in gaps;
- Ant nests in the field are often associated with plants that produce a lot of honeydew. Avoid planting near buildings and remove or plant further away grasses near foundations as these are ant nesting sites;
- Rinse empty soft drink containers or remove them from the building;
- Dig protective grooves around pet water bowls. Fill the grooves with water mixed with washing-up liquid to prevent ants from flying;
- Check around sinks, cupboards, pipes and electrical wiring. Look for ant trails and single ants. Individual ants are scouts looking for food sources or places to build a nest. If you see ant trails, try to follow them and find out how they get into the building.
- Ants that live under house foundations or pavement tiles can be driven away by flooding their homes with soapy water (flea shampoo for dogs can also be used).
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How to eradicate ants at home?
Use natural trapping agents as sweet baits – this can be a simple jam or water solution with honey and sugar. Remember that ants do not like sunflower oil, so use it to stretch the areas you want the ants to avoid. Ants also dislike chalk, wild mint, wormwood and elder leaves.
What is the cost of ant extermination?
The cost of ant extermination depends on the size of your home and the extent of the infestation, or maybe the ants are outside? Contact us, tell us more about the situation and we’ll adjust the price.
