FLEA EXTERMINATION
The cat flea is currently the most common flea species in Lithuania. The flea lays eggs, which develop into an adult flea that can produce new offspring within 20-25 days. Flea control is therefore very important to protect against these pests.
By constantly feeding on human blood, these pests evolve at a very fast rate, and pets living together spread the parasites throughout the house. It is a mistake to think that fleas carried by pets are only dangerous to them – fleas brought indoors can feel the body heat from humans and will attack to feed. We provide flea extermination in Vilnius and Kaunas, contact us for a consultation today.

FLEAS AND THEIR CHARACTERISTICS
The biggest flea infestation is predicted in autumn, when stray cats seek shelter in apartment blocks. Fleas are also transmitted by rodents.
Fleas should not be confused with bugs. Fleas are small, wingless, flat on the sides, about 2-4 mm long, nimbly hopping, with a dark brown and shiny body covered with bristles. Thanks to their powerful hind legs, they can jump 18 – 20 cm vertically and 35 – 40 cm horizontally, making it easy to move to new habitats. Flea bites leave red spots, which usually appear on the legs, then spread to the whole body, and it itches badly. In most cases, it is not possible to eradicate fleas without specialist help.

HOW TO EXTERMINATE FLEAS?
Eradicating fleas is quite difficult because they spread very quickly – fleas lay up to 20 eggs on the fur of animals, in their permanent bedding, in floor crevices, under carpets, and can lay up to 500 eggs in a lifetime.
The biggest problem is that people are still ashamed to talk about the problem and tend to take their own extermination measures and listen to folk remedies for fleas, which are mostly ineffective and short-lived. With 10% of the flea population breeding in the fur of animals, and the rest living in the open: carpets, floor cracks, animal beds, bedding, the flea control and measures used must be safe for the occupants, effective and long-lasting.
Here are some steps you should take if you find fleas in your home:
PERIODIC FLEA CLEANING
This doesn’t mean that fleas only breed in untidy houses, as these pests can occur completely randomly. However, the vacuum cleaner is the biggest enemy of fleas in the home. If fleas appear, vacuuming should be done even several times a day. It is recommended to use disposable vacuum cleaner bags to prevent fleas from escaping into the environment. Vacuum not only floors, but also furniture and various crevices.
Once vacuumed, the floor should also be washed with a wet cloth and then dried. Flea larvae cannot tolerate humidity and drought and will die.
FLEA CONTROL WITH INSECTICIDES
Eradicating fleas at home and with folk remedies such as vinegar and baking soda is very difficult because the larvae and flea eggs in the environment are invisible to the naked eye, which makes it much harder to eradicate fleas with popular aerosol products. One of the most effective tools is insecticides for professional use. However, it is preferable to stay away from the room or the whole apartment for at least one night after spraying with this product. Secondly, aerosols, even the strongest ones, only kill fleas but not their eggs.
The fleas that hatch from them resume their activities. Experts advise to use insecticides with great care, to read the instructions carefully, to understand the biological habits of the pest, and to feel responsible for the health of your household. If fleas are the fault of the neighbours, it is essential to agree that flea control will be carried out in their home.
PROFESSIONAL FLEA EXTERMINATION
However, eradicating fleas without the help of professionals can be difficult, especially as people do not know how to use insecticides effectively and economically to achieve the best results. As a result, you can waste a lot of your precious time and money, and possibly even damage your household goods, by using chemicals incorrectly.
Therefore, if you are unable to eradicate fleas yourself, we always recommend that you contact a pest control professional. The Sterilus team offers effective and fast flea control for all households.
