Sugar beetles (the latter have other names such as sugar beetles, silver oat beetles, damping-off beetles, etc.) are small insects, one of the pests. They are usually 11-12 mm in size, although slightly larger or smaller individuals may occur.
What does the sugar beetle look like? The body of this small creature is elongated, widening at the head, flat, slender and covered with scales or fine hairs. It has six legs and a tail that branches out into three spurs. Colour: grey, glossy and sometimes brownish.

WHERE ARE SILVERFISH FOUND?
These small pests are usually found in dark, cool places with high humidity – up to 70-95%. So they are common inhabitants of bathrooms, toilets, baths, kitchens, basements and attics. In public and commercial areas, sugar gliders are often found in warehouses, offices, museums, libraries, etc.

HOW TO ERADICATE SILVERFISH?
These things can help exterminate silverfish?
- Various household cleaners. Just use normal (preferably disinfectant, chlorine-containing) cleaners. The good news is that scales are not yet resistant to household cleaners.
- Essential oils. If you don’t want to use harsh chemicals, cypress essential oil is one of the most effective. Simply leave a piece of cloth or filter paper well moistened with the oil in the room where you have noticed these pests.
- Sticky insect traps. Another effective and inexpensive way is to buy traps: this can significantly reduce the population of these unwanted pests.
However, it is not always easy to find colonies of these insects, so sometimes the best solution is to have them professionally exterminated.
HOW TO AVOID SILVERFISH AT HOME?
- Take better care of cleanliness and hygiene: the scaly bugs don’t like clean and dry rooms: they are damp beetles for a reason;
- store loose food in airtight containers: this prevents pests from attacking them;
- try to reduce the humidity level in your home, keep an eye out for mould, and if it does appear, do everything you can to get rid of it as soon as possible;
- make sure your home is airtight (sugar beetle can easily get in through even the smallest cracks).
